Synthesis and Applications of Nanocarbon Aerogels


Abstract:

With the advance in the development of material synthesis, it has been possible to integrate the use of the different allotropic forms of carbon in the development of aerogels, thus combining the excellent individual properties of these materials within an aerogel form. Aerogels exhibit interesting properties including high porosity, high surface area, low density that make them an excellent alternative for many fields such as air and water pollutant removal, thermal insulation or energy storage. This chapter highlights the synthesis methods of aerogels obtained from the main nanocarbon materials including carbon nanotubes, graphene and nanodiamonds and the research results obtained by application of such aerogels in varying fields.
