Synthesis and characterization of cancrinite-sodalite intermediate phase and carbonated disordered cancrinite

Abstract:

It was realized the synthesis of solids from zeolite X, at variable concentrations of NaOH and Na 2CO 3, autogenous pressure and times of crystallization between 96 and 336 h. The obtained solids were analyzed by different analytical techniques such as MEB, IRTF, DRX and specific superficial area. The obtained results, based on the different conditions of used syntheses, demonstrated that the intermediary phase is easier to obtain than the carbonated cancrinite disorderly. The micrographs of the disorderly cancrinite showed crystals hexagonal, characteristic of this solid, nevertheless could be observed agglomerates that could be due to the low effective growth of crystals, opposite when chromate is used in the and ideal cancrinite is obtained. In these studies it was possible to be determined that the sample is formed by a great amount of polycrystalline agglomerates and some crystals of hexagonal morphology of up to 2 μm; all corresponding to the intermediate phase, result corroborated by DRX. On the other hand, they were not observed cubical crystals corresponding to the zeolite type sodalite. It is possible to deduce that the formation of the zeolite ideal cancrinite occurs in several stages and the synthesized solids are precursory in the formation of this zeolite.
