Synthesis of biomaterials by mechanochemical transformation

Abstract:

Mechanochemical solid-phase reactions of different kinds of constituent powder mixtures were investigated with the aim of obtaining Hydroxyapatite (HAp). It was found that from mixtures of Ca(OH)2 and P2O5 or (NH4)2HPO4 milled for different periods and calcined at 800°C is possible to obtain HAp of average particle size of 200 nm. The process was followed by XRD, IR and TEM. It is observed that amorphization begins at 17 hours of milling. The material completely recrystallizes and transforms to HAp and calcium phosphate by heating at 800°C for 4 h.
