System frequency and voltage collapse
Abstract:
This paper concentrates on studying the effect of linear increases in load demand on the system frequency. The frequency of a system is dependent on active power balance. The speed of the equivalent generator represents the system frequency. A power system undergoes voltage collapse if post-disturbance equilibrium voltages are below acceptable limits. This paper examines the relative response rates of steam and hydraulic turbines and their governing systems. The power load increases until the voltage collapse is reached. The analysis is tested on three systems, the IEEE 14, 30 and 57 bus test systems.
