System of indicators for sustainability in rural communities of Ecuador within the framework of Local Agenda 21
Abstract:
The local development strategy emerges from the requirement to enhance the capabilities of a given territory, what allows the fulfillment of the national development objectives, the requirement to consolidate the sustainability of the economic system, social and solidarity, boost productivity and competitiveness for sustainable economic growth, deploy productive capacities and the environment, to achieve food sovereignty and Good Rural Living in Ecuador. In this sense, t is necessary to have tools, techniques and methodological procedures to identify the capabilities of a community, in terms of achieving development at the local level. The main objective of the study, it is proposed to describe a system of indicators for the implementation of a Plan for sustainable local development in rural communities of Ecuador within the framework of Local Agenda 21. The proposal of a system of indicators is based on the bibliographic review, of management models, methodologies and other tools for the implementation of the Local Agenda 21 in rural communities of different countries. As a result of the study, a system of indicators structured in dimensions is proposed, key areas and indicators for the evaluation of local sustainability in rural communities.
