Tagaeris and Taromenanes: Two indigenous groups in voluntary isolation in Yasuni National Park, Ecuador

Abstract:

Yasuní National Park, located in the Ecuadorian Amazon, is one of the most important protected areas in the country. Biodiversity and indigenous settlement of the Waorani ethnic group represent a significant heritage value in the park. The study analyzes the experience of two human groups: Tagaeris and Taromenanes, from the Waoranis, because of the pressure on their lands of extraction activities, rubber and oil. It was addressed as documentary research supported by bibliographic consul-tations and fieldwork. The results demonstrate situations that violate Aboriginal integrity and its space, including pollution, jungle fragmentation and transculturiza-tion. It is concluded that It is necessary to apply strategies to ensure the permanence in their lands and avoid the extermination of these ethnic groups in a territory that is in fact and entitled to them.
