Teachers´ scientific investigative skills of the Catholic University of Cuenca, Ecuador


Abstract:

Objective: To characterize the scientific research skills of the teaching staff of the Bio pharmaceutics Faculty at Catholic University of Cuenca. Methods: Experimental design not descriptive and cross in the period from January to March 2016. A questionnaire was applied to evaluate the research skills of 13 teachers of the Faculty of Bio pharmaceutics. The data were processed with statistical package SPSS 20.0 using descriptive and inferential statistics with nonparametric methods for comparing averages of independent groups and proportions (or Mann Whitney and χ 2). Results: The prevailing scientific degree corresponded with the Master of Science in various areas of knowledge. Research skills showed detriment mainly in communicating results with low values in overcoming little impact on research and publications or community application. The main research activity developed is the thesis supervision, with less than 4 hours per week. Research skills development showed an incipient deficit on the critical, scientific theorizing and contrasting. Conclusions: The research skills of teachers of the faculty of Bio pharmaceutics of the UCACUE showed weaknesses, with low impact on the community and solving scientific problems. Under these conditions, it urges an acute change in the management of research so that transform the research culture of teachers towards excellence and solving contemporary problems of the city, the region and the planet.
