Teaching evaluation of the nursing staff in Universidad Estatal de Peninsula de Santa Elena in Ecuador


Abstract:

Introduction: Nowadays, a number of significant changes have taken place in the process of evaluation of nursing professors in the Latin American nations, including the Republic of Ecuador and the objective of this process is to attain the formation of advanced professionals in this field. Objective: To determine the results of the evaluation strategies of the teaching performance of nursing professors. Methods: Cross-sectional and descriptive study of 32 nursing professors working in the Faculty of Social and Health Services of Universidad Estatal de la Peninsula de Santa Elena, Ecuador. The analytical instruments were self-assessment, coevaluation and heteroevaluation of each professor in the first semester of 2016. Results: In this study, 71.87 % of the nursing professors were women; the most represented components were research and teaching. The best scores were gained by the professors in the components called academic management, linking to the community and research. Conclusions: The results of the application of the evaluating strategy to the teaching performance were positive since most of the professors were satisfactorily evaluated, mainly in the components called academic management, linking to the community and research.
