Teaching of communicators facing the digital transition. UTPL case


Abstract:

The purpose of the research is to identify the impressions of students and media managers regarding the challenges and opportunities facing higher education in the transition to cybercommunication, based on the case study of the communication career of the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) of Ecuador in the distance learning mode. The research is descriptive and relational, using qualitative and quantitative methodology through surveys and semi-structured interviews. Students prefer digital and streaming media, however, they do not take the risk of pursuing a career related to new forms and tools of communication. Face-to-face teaching is losing space. Two aspects were identified, one on the fundamentals and values of the profession, and the other on emerging issues in digital communication. The experts addressed call for the preservation of good journalistic practice.
