The Competitive Advantage of Additive Manufacturing in the Naval Sector

Abstract:

3D technology is currently used in many areas; these technologies provide simulators, modeling, and personalization tools for printing in a totally innovative way. For years, financial restrictions imposed on the public sector have created difficulties in carrying out Navy missions, which, due to their high value and specificity, already have, by their nature, added difficulties. Thus, the introduction of additive manufacturing in supply chains can overcome some complications inherent in the process of maintaining existing means. Additive manufacturing has the possibility to revolutionize supply chains; these technologies are possible disruptors in the area of maintenance and logistics and change the organization’s response capacity. In this sense, the Navy can exploit this technology in order to obtain its own benefits and improve its organization.
