The Cultural Construction of Affection in Ciudad Guayana: A Discursive Psychosocial Study About the Process of Urban Narrative Production on Affective Praxis


Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to understand and to interpret discursive constructions employed by three generational groups (grandparents: 50-70 years old, parents: 30-50 years old, and children: 15-25 years old), in Ciudad Guayana in order to determine convergences, divergences, changes, and continuities or cultural ruptures between narratives and affective practices. The main theoretical pre-supposition adopted herein is that affections are discursive cultural constructions that structure affective practices of people: their attitudes of preference or rejection, their different modes of interpersonal relationships, as well as their common sense which is the impulse behind human appreciations, judgements and beliefs related to expressed feelings that are felt or sufferred.
