The Development of Critical Thinking: A Challenge for Ecuadorian Education

Abstract:

Critical thinking is considered a flaw within the Ecuadorian educational system. The objective of this study is to determine the factors that could be influencing the poor development of critical thinking in Ecuadorian students. Based on a qualitative study, the opinion of five excellent Ecuadorian teachers was consulted, who, based on an in-depth interview, narrate what they do in their classrooms to develop critical thinking in their students. The conclusion suggests that the rigidity of school administrative structures makes interdisciplinary work difficult and that there are few teachers trained to do so.
