The Givetien of Avesnois (north France): paleoenvironments and paleogeographical implications

Abstract:

Sixteen carbonate microfacies, ranging from open marine to supratidal environments have been described. The Terres d'Haurs, Mont d'Haurs and Fromelennes Formations are relatively similar to their equivalents from the Givet type area. However, the Trois-Fontaines Formation is partly different, due to the absence of a lagoonal complex above the first biostrome. Sequential analysis shows that sedimentation is controlled by three orders of paleobathymetric cyles. The diagenetic sequence has been established. -English summary
