The Input Displacement Power Factor Compensation of a Matrix Based Isolated Bidirectional AC-DC converter

Abstract:

This paper presents a control algorithm for input displacement power factor (DPF) compensation of a matrix based three phase isolated bidirectional AC-DC converter. The input LC filter of the converter draws signification proportion of capacitive current at lower loads and consequently, degrades the DPF resulting in overall reduced power conversion efficiency. The proposed control algorithm allows decoupled control of both output voltage and DPF and thus, provides a simple yet effective implementation for DPF compensation. The mathematical formulation of the proposed control is carried out. Subsequently, the effectiveness of control is demonstrated through digital simulation for a 400 V (RMS), 50 Hz to 48 V DC power converter operating from 0.5 C W to 2.5 kW output power.
