The Knowledge Society in the European and Latin American environment: The case of Ecuador and Spain

Abstract:

The objective of this research is to review and make a case study of current Information Policies in Spain and Latin America, in particular the case of Republic of Ecuador, whose situation shows a clear investment in the evolution towards the Knowledge Society. The main state action plans are discussed, as well as those measurement standards based indicators of social premises of both countries. The methodology chosen is based on content analysis of the policies and major institutions that support them. It has also a prospective character, since it tries to put the focus on possible perspectives in action, thanks to a SWOT assessment tool that provides not only present but diagnoses possible routes for the future.
