The Mediating Role of Perceived Organizational Support between New Ways of Working and the Commitment of Uni-Versity Professors
Abstract:
Employee commitment is a very relevant construct at the organizational level, especially in times of uncertain-ty. Therefore, organizations have developed new ways of working to continue carrying out their activities when face-to-face classes were replaced by virtual classes pre-dominated by remote work or teleworking by the teacher. This has led several universities to strengthen their abili-ty to educate their students through the virtual modality which, in some cases, had been underutilized before the pandemic Covid-19. In consequence, many authority fi-gures at these universities now view this form of delivering educational services as ideal for the future for a variety of reasons. This research aimed to consider the role of perceived organizational support as influential variable between new forms of work and employee commitment. 590 university professors who work in public and priva-te universities in Guayaquil, Ecuador were surveyed. The results of the survey shows that the level organizational support perceived by university teachers significantly im-pacts the positive relationship between the new forms of work and the employee's (teacher's) commitment. These findings are relevant to organizations that have adopted a remote work modality that involved drastic changes of working conditions and the use of digital and technologi-cal tools that should be the subject of future educational research in for the future.
