The Social Explosion Which is Advancing in South America: The Cases of Chile and Bolivia

Abstract:

This article aims to analyze the social protests carried out in Chile and Bolivia, South American countries, taking as a prelude the social outbreak unleashed in October 2019 in Ecuador. Although these protests occurred simultaneously, the reasons were different: in Chile, the reaction of the poor classes to the socio-economic polarity was clearly seen. This country is recognized as an economic and productive model in Latin America; while in Bolivia, the cause of the internal social conflict was the fraud in October 2019 elections, and the rejection of the indefinite reelection of Evo Morales and his system of government clinging to Socialism of the 21st Century. Even though the causes of the social protests were different, the consequences were similar: deaths, injuries, detainees, damage to public and private property, and a high burden of violence.
