The body and the arts: elementary keys to the transition from initial to basic education.

Abstract:

Based on the questioning about the forms of articulation between Early Childhood Education (Infant) and Elementary Education (Primary) levels of the Ecuadorian educational system, this research study examines the pedagogical work on body education in the last grade of Early Childhood Education and the first two of Elementary Education, accounting the body as a factor to consider in this educational transition. The proposed objective opts for a qualitative perspective of social research, with an interpretive and critical approach, which uses observation, development and analysis of audiovisual records of certain pedagogical practices focused on body education. The results show a predominance of directive mediation through closed instructions and a conception of the body as an object or instrument. In addition, significant distances between both levels can be pointed out, in which a concern for expressive development in Early Education and for physical development in the case of Elementary Education stands out. From the results emerges, on the one hand, the vision of the body as an essential factor for the integral development of the human being and, on the other, the need to promote proposals for body education, that respect the natural processes of growth and the self-perception of unity between the physical and emotional entities that characterize infancy and childhood, as elements of change and transformation of the pedagogical paradigms that have traditionally guided the education of the Early and Elementary Levels.
