The cement kiln: AI approach to model and control
Abstract:
It is known that the cement kiln is a multivariable, non-linear time variable process without an easy modelling. There are some works were appropriate solutions to control the cement kiln are reported. Some of these solutions deals with classical control techniques, and others with AI techniques. Any way, when these solutions are applied to a real plant, the results are not satisfactory because the control program requires a periodic tuning according to the variable behavior of the process and production requirements. In this way a real time expert system environment is being developed to study the performances of this kind of system in the control of a cement kiln. In this environment, additions to the control program, modifications and tuning can be performed in an easy way, even by people without experience in software and control. In this paper we present the heuristic approach to model the kiln, as well as its control. (A)
