A contour-map approach to MOS transistor design


Abstract:

MOS transistors are the key semiconductor devices in modern electronics, and understanding them is a problematic milestone while learning the bases of microelectronics. This work proposes an alternative representation of the characteristics interplay by contour maps; and extends it to basic circuits, using a common-source stage as an example. Therefore, introductory microelectronic design courses can benefit from this strategy: it facilitates obtaining the design window through a straightforward process while helping to qualitatively understand the device or circuit under analysis.
