The cost and perception in society of vehicular congestion caused by urban public transport in the city of Ambato


Abstract:

Vehicular congestion is a phenomenon that affects to miles of cities around the world, due to the constant growth of urban areas and the increased need of the population for transport. In this research, the social cost generated by vehicular congestion is determined and an analysis of the users perspective is carried out in front of this problem, for this a mathematical model is applied that allows to calculate the social cost that is applied to each of the urban transport users due to vehicular congestion in the city of Ambato. The results of the research show that the social cost that urban transport users must bear due to vehicular congestion is USD 27.20 per year, that is, USD 2.27 per month, and based on perception, it is necessary to 30.3% of Ambato society should not pay any value for this concept.
