The distribution and conservation status of the Danube crested newt, Triturus dobrogicus
Abstract:
The range boundaries of the Danube crested newt (Triturus dobrogicus) are estimated from published data and new observations. The species range is restricted to the Pannonian and Dobrogean lowlands of central and eastern Europe. Its conservation status is determined as "vulnerable". The main cause of decline is habitat destruction through the conversion of wetlands, (semi-)natural land and pasture into arable fields.
