The effect of a therapist's pregnancy on a therapeutic relationship with an inmate charged with infanticide
Abstract:
More often, those inmates who have been charged with a child's death are mandated by the court to seek psychiatric services. Due to the social hierarchy within the jail, these women are segregated from the rest of the prison population. Other inmates see this infanticide as the most heinous crime, and often take justice into their own hands and assault these inmates. Hence these women do not participate in the social protocol dictated by the jail environment. Remarkably, when I have inquired as to whether or not these particular inmates socialized with each other, several have denied it. I treat this information very tentatively, as I am an authority within the system, and most inmates proceed with caution in terms of revealing information about other inmates.
