The environmental component in engineering professional formation at the universidad central de venezuela

Abstract:

A preliminary analysis of the current situation at the Engineering Faculty of the Universidad Central de Venezuela with respect to the incorporation of the environmental component in the formation of future professionals of Engineering is presented. Through a review of the curricula and a quantitative analysis of the components present in the study plans of the specialities offered in the Faculty, it can be shown that there is an incipient effort to include the new trends of environmental concern in human resource formation based on isolated as well as optional courses related to the area. The absence of a clear policy to include environmental formation as a transverse axis in the learning process underlines the need for a methodology directed at teaching personnel to become aware of this point of view. As such, a program of workshops is proposed, where the minimal specific concepts will be presented, and, in consequence, establishing the relationships between their specific subjects and the associated environmental problems.
