The giant tortoises: a natural history disturbed by man.

Abstract:

Geochelone elephantopus have been reduced from hundreds of thousands before the arrival of man to 15 000 today. Reasons for this and problems for the future are outlined. Their life history and natural factors which control numbers are described. - J.Robertson
