The human dimension in journalistic coverage, of the consequences, of the earthquakes that occurred in peru (2007) and Ecuador (2016)


Abstract:

This article analyzes the degree of involvement and ethical dilemmas faced by journalists of reference media in Peru and Ecuador in the coverage of the earthquakes in 2007 and 2016, respectively. The methodology used is of a qualitative type, based on semi-structured interviews with the special media envoys and the analysis of the information products that are published when the crisis broke out. Then, this news is submitted to the scrutiny of a focus group composed of professionals and students of Communication, to gather their reactions on the quality, commitment and sensitivity of the texts. It was found that human drama not only highlights the virtues and weaknesses of the press, but also impacts the subjectivity of the journalist and may allow closer coverage of catastrophes.
