The impact of migration on the educational expectations and aspirations and the social mobility of Sigseño Youth
Abstract:
This article analyzes whether the discourses generated in the communication and material exchange within transnational households impact the aspirational narrative and imaginary regarding the fulfillment of the educational and professional expectations for the sons and daughters of migrants from the district of Sígsig, Ecuador. A qualitative study demonstrates that international migration does not have a negative influence on educational aspirations and may have a positive influence on the imaginary regarding expectation fulfillment given the remittances they are receiving.
