The nosocomial infection in the health diagnose of the University General Hospital "Enrique Cabrera". 2012. Havana. Cuba

Abstract:

Introduction: the nosocomial infection (NI) or hospitalacquired infection represents an important health problem at worldwide level, and of great social and economic repercussion. Objective: to describe with epidemiological focussing the behaviour of the nosocomial infection in the University General Hospital "Enrique Cabrera" at La Habana during the year 2012. Material and Method: epidemiological investigation designed like a descriptive, retrospective and longitudinal study was done. Variables to study were: type of nosocomial infection for services, localization of the infection, infection agents identified by culture and associated mortality to nosocomial infection and reports of the epidemiological vigilance observations. Results: the rates of incidence of nosocomial infection were of 3.2 for 100 patients discharged. The UCIP showed rates between 14.6 and 14.9. The others services showed normal rates. Conclusions: we had difficulties with the performance of microbiological studies in some services which interfere with a better definition of the epidemiological picture and create a sub register of infection in some services.
