The official development assistance (ODA) and fiscal instruments to reduce poverty: An EU perspective

Abstract:

Europe is by far the most generous donor of ODA in the world, as well as the main private donor in the fight against extreme poverty and hunger. The eight Millennium Development Goals established by the United Nations have the same objective, but their results are still insufficient in terms of health, hunger, education, equalization of opportunities for men and women and fight against AIDS. This chapter, written from an European perspective, analyze both (1) the tools that the EU is using to develop Least Developed Countries to mitigate the consequences of extreme famine, and (2) the prospects for improvement of new instruments and strategic tax put in place to achieve this socioeconomic objective.
