The promotion of linguistic diversity on the European public broadcasters
Abstract:
Diversity is a broad concept that covers different dimensions: culture, society, language, sexual orientation, gender, age, and so on. And the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is also diverse. As a public service entity and therefore at the service of society, the UER should ensure that all social groups are represented without being excluded and/or marginalized. In this regard, this study focuses on how the European public broadcasters have developed, enforced and managed their programming measures and policies in support of linguistic diversity between 2013 and 2015. Furthermore, the aim is to identify their main stakes in this respect.
