The relationship of the school with parents in a province with high poverty rates and high school results in Ecuador

Abstract:

This article describes aspects of the relationship between schools and parents in the province of Carchi, Ecuador. They are public institutions of basic education that obtained the best averages in the tests of the National Institute of Educational Evaluation (INEVAL, 2015), periods 2013, 2014 and 2015. The evaluated child population is mostly poor, with technological deficiencies. The objective of this research is to determine the possible factors in the relationship indicated, which explain these results. The investigation was analytical-descriptive with a qualitative approach and was based on the analysis of 27 interviews applied to teachers of these schools. The elements that emerge from the analysis of the results of this work indicate that the factors related to the family / school relationship that seem to be more relevant for school success in the province of Carchi are frequent meetings to report on academic performance, attention to the emotional-emotional situation of the child and a high number of meetings per year (between five and ten). Finally, there a proportionate distribution of individual and group meetings of teachers with parents.
