The role of the media in the governance and management of climate change in Ecuador


Abstract:

Climate change is the greatest challenge facing humanity today, becoming a problem that is studied from different perspectives, in order to generate proposals that contribute to generating mitigation, adaptation and resilience processes. For this, it is necessary to determine the strategic actions of the actors involved in the management of climate change. In this scenario, this research was born, with the objective of analyzing the role of the media in the face of climate change in Ecuador, case study Loja. A qualitative approach methodology was used, divided into three moments: actor mapping, expert perspective (in-depth interview), and construction of the role of media and journalists (focus group). The results allowed us to identify and contrast the instruments that govern climate governance, at the national, provincial and cantonal levels, and establish the key actors and the role they have been fulfilling.
