The use of journalistic genres. Case study: El comercio from Ecuador

Abstract:

The journalistic genres build the discourse while they mold it. Study the narrative forms implies, by its close relationship, to analyze its sociocultural context. El Comercio newspaper, one of the main headers of national scope and referring to professional journalism in Ecuador and the region, provided an updated picture of the meaning, use and importance of journalistic genres in the Ecuadorian environment. From a qualitative-quantitative approach, a content analysis was carried out in order to collect significant data that serves as a continuity in the overpowering communicative debate on contemporary journalism. We selected the printed editions (complete), corresponding to the second semester of 2017 (184 newspapers), to which a table designed and based on various variables was applied. A certain heterogeneity was perceived in the distribution of genres, promoting a dynamic and suggestive informative journey: a whole understanding in the management of the genres.
