The use of video games in confinement and their psychological and social impact on people


Abstract:

The accelerated production of new technologies and the modernization of entertainment platforms have led to the massive use of video games in our daily life, imposing the need to investigate the impact or incidences that these have caused psychologically in people during the confinement originated by the COVID19 pandemic. A bibliographic analysis of various social theories covering factors caused by video games in general is made. It should be emphasized that the present study is experimental in nature, fulfilling the objective of presenting scientific evidence on the effects of the use of video games on aspects of the social life of the inhabitants of the Floron Community in the city of Portoviejo-Ecuador, whose ages were categorized in years, [Children: 5 to 10 years], [Youth: 11 to 17 years] and [Adults: 18 years and older]. The analyzed areas in people’s lives, such as academic, affective, labor, among others, are affected by the use of video games. The research was able to diagnose that 45 of the 170 people surveyed have severe problems of addiction to video games, mainly altering their state of health and academic-work responsibilities.
