Thermal cracking in a cantilever bridge made of HSC

Abstract:

In this paper, an extended study is carried out on the risk of longitudinal cracking of the deck and bottom flange of an in-situ cantilever bridge manufactured in high strength concrete. Emphasis is on the risk of thermal cracking of the bridge construction. The hardening process is analyzed and it was found that autogenous shrinkage caused early cracking after 1 or 2 days. The crack width depends on the time of cracking and the number of cracks on the temperature drop after the instant of cracking.
