Thermoeconomic analysis of gas turbine cogeneration systems

Abstract:

Given an energy system, the way in which we define its productive structure is a key point in its thermoeconomic analysis. This paper addresses a methodology for disaggregating energy systems in view of its application to thermoeconomics. The application of the proposed methodology allows us to disaggregate the plant in productive and dissipative units. Also it allows us to disaggregate the exergy of flows into thermal, mechanical and chemical concepts. We apply the proposed methodology to cogeneration systems based on a gas turbine with/without regenerative heat exchanger. A general productive structure is obtained for these systems. Also, we show how to use costs to identify the pros and cons of using one subsystem or another, as well as how and why to introduce new units in the structure. The limits of the ratio Q/W to be applied to the different system configurations are analyzed. This is performed by using the criterion of the costs of the products. Finally, it is shown how the proposed disaggregation allows us to formulate and solve local optimization problems.
