Thermoeconomic study of a sugar factory

Abstract:

The Theory of Exergetic Cost was applied to a sugar factory. This required a revision of the theory, given the nature of the flows involved. The plant is dimensioned by an incidence matrix representing 240 flows connecting 73 subsystems. The Fuel-Product-Byproduct definitions of the evaporators are of special interest. The thermoeconomic costs of all the flows in the plant give an overall economic view of the whole, leading to the conclusion that the analysis presented here can be used in the future as a very effective tool for the control and management of this type of systems.
