Thinking beyond eurocentric modernity in a decolonial perspective

Abstract:

Eurocentric modernity developed an epistemological and political project with universal and hegemonic pretensions, imposing its single vision of the world on other cultures around the planet, denying other forms of knowing and learning, putting Europe-United States at the epicenter of discourse as the primary nucleus of power for guiding the destiny of all mankind. This article seeks to reflect on this issue, taking as critical elements the contributions of decolonial thinking. The methodology used is hermeneutic. Conclusions are that thinking beyond modernity implies not only questioning the universalist pretensions of western thought but also recognizing that other discourses and epistemes exist in our America that have not yet been studied or incorporated into the history of Latin American ideas, nor even in universities as topics and problems for study. Therefore, it is necessary to promote decolonial projects in order to establish intercultural dialogue and contribute to consolidating our full political and epistemological liberation.
