Toward an improvement in preschool learning with an integrated Virtual Reality application: A preliminary study
Abstract:
Nowadays, many preschooler applications and computer services are available for elementary education. These applications are developed with the leading emerging technologies to reinforce the learning process for children at the preschool level. A clear example of new low-cost educational technology applications for preschoolers could be 'FunLearning.' This application was developed to strengthen the alphabet learning process using immersed Virtual Reality in children aged between 4-5 years who attend the Comprehensive Assistance Centers in Riobamba city. The ADDE methodology applied analysis, design, development, and testing phases. The technological tools selected for this project were Unity 3D as the game engine, SketchUp to model the objects and letters, and VrBox 3D virtual reality glasses. The C # language and the GoogleVR library were for front-end coding. ISO/IEC 25010 SQuaRE was considered for the usability evaluation, experimenting with 40 surveyed children, using the USE QUESTIONNAIRE with a Likert scale valued including pictograms. As a result, Funlearning meets the satisfactory usability level by measuring ease-of-use and ease-of-learning. The experimentation becomes an alphabet learning reinforcement tool for preschoolers in a fun and operational way.
