Towards a smart classroom: Development of an augmented reality application for education and tele-education

Abstract:

Augmented Reality complements the perception and interaction with the real world and allows the end-user to be in an augmented real environment with additional information generated by the computer. This work is divided into two main parts: First, we studied the digital image processing used in the detection and recognition markers, the methods for creating bookmarks with high contrast by generating useful matrices, in order to calculate the position of these markers in the scene, and the creation of 3D models that will be later rendered. Second, we developed an augmented reality application for education and tele-education with the aforementioned tools. We present an introduction for existing libraries in different programming languages, which help us to develop this application for Science subject, with an aggregate value of user interactivity by the use of the same markers. The application showed an interesting form of education in children of 6 years, and a new opportunity towards a smart classroom.
