Tradiciones de la vida y la muerte, representación de la escatología posmortuoria (cielo, purgatorio e infierno), a través de una estética propia

Abstract:

Eschatology originates from the Greek word -eschatos, which means “last”, and from -logy, which means “study”, and its based on religious beliefs about the afterlife or the ultimate realities of the soul of being. It is divided into Antepost-Historical Eschatology (this copes with the final destiny of the universe) and Post-Mortem Eschatology, on which the project is centred, which refers to the last state of the human being after its death. It relates to the spaces of heaven, purgatory and hell, that, according to religious dogmas, a person's soul will go on according to the actions he has performed in life. Religious iconography has been represented through artistic manifestations throughout history, with the intention of educating and evangelizing the population throughout images. One of the main purposes of this practice was to show the consequences of not fearing God, summarizing this in three spaces, each one with its own elements and implications. Heaven is beyond shadow of a doubt, the place which every human being aspires to be, since it is God's divine promise to men. On the other hand, purgatory symbolizes the state in which a person's soul is found, but it is not fully purified to ascend to heaven, so it must purge its sins until it is worthy of salvation. Lastly, and the most dreadly, hell, a fate that reflects all the evils of the world and the place where torture is indisputable according to the sins committed on earth, the soul of the bad people will experience suffer for all eternity, being in an excessive karmic state from which it will not be able to escape. Having this said, the intention is to use art as a filter to create a new perception of Post-mortem Eschatology, through illustration, with the aim of escaping from the traditional images and giving a new aesthetic.
