Transmission Expansion Planning Considering Grid Topology Changes and N-1 Contingencies Criteria
Abstract:
In the present research, a new methodology is proposed to find the solution to the problem of transmission expansion planning in electrical power systems, considering changes in topology through the optimal transmission switching, N–1 contingencies and maximum chargeability of the lines; the proposed model considers optimal power flows DC to minimize operating and investment costs. In addition to this, the restriction of the problem is posed by not allowing demand rationing. The proposed methodology is applied in the IEEE 14-bus system in which several case studies were proposed, varying the maximum number of transmission lines that can be switched and as a result, the new lines that must be implemented in the SEP are obtained in a time of 5 years. The behavior of the power flows circulating through the transmission lines before and after the exposed methodology is also compared.
