Transmit Beamforming for a MISO SWIPT System with a Power Beacon

Abstract:

This paper studies a multi-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system with a power beacon (PB), in which several power-splitting (PS) users co-exist with an energyharvesting (EH) user. The PB is a dedicated source of power for radio frequency EH, and it appears as a candidate solution to help the base station (BS) to satisfy the EH requirements of the users. We aim to obtain the transmit beamforming vectors and the PS ratios that minimize the total transmit power at the BS and PB under the constraints of minimum QoS of the PS users and minimum EH requirements. The non-convex optimization problem is solved by using the semidefinite relaxation technique. Numerical simulations show that the proposed approach achieves the lowest total transmit power in comparison with baseline schemes.
