Transparency and open government indicators: Analysis of public information in chilean national television

Abstract:

Access to public information, transparency and open government are common practices in the field of public administrations. These practices are bound by national laws and international recommendations. In the case of televisions, in their character of informative companies working with a public service good, the study of institutional, economic and production information of these entities is quite recent, having several models that allow a holistic audit of their websites. This research studies four national television networks in Chile, one public (TVN) and three private (Chilevisión, Megavisión and Canal 13), through the application of 64 indicators based on previous methodologies and adapted to the national context. The results show a wide difference between the public and private operators in all the analyzed areas, the private ones promoting insufficient and deficit data in the institutional and economic dimension, but improving in the production.
