Tratamiento de Osteomielitis Supurativa Crónica Ante el uso de Oxigenación Hiperbárica.
Abstract:
Osteomyelitis is an inflammatory infectious pathological entity that dates from the beginning of the 19th century where they performed amputations of infected tissues to eliminate the cause. This is considered an infection of odontogenic origin or caused by trauma, usually accompanied by aerobic and anaerobic bacterial agents as are the following: streptococcus aureus, Anginosus, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Actinomyces, etc. Through sensitivity tests, we will determine what type of microorganism we have and determine what type of antibiotic therapy we should use to combat the microorganisms present. This is classified as acute, sub-acute and chronic. In any of the stages there is a serious affectation of the involved tissues, resulting in cell necrosis and gangrene that will cause bone damage and fistulas. This inflammatory process that affects bone tissue is currently considered a public health problem due to morbidity in the pediatric and adult population. Chronic mandibular supurative osteomyelitis has presented a positive response to hyperbaric oxygenation therapy. The use of the hyperbaric chamber is of such importance in this type of pathologies since it has advantages that will help to have a successful prognosis since it produces a positive pressure in the oxygen input to the blood achieving tissue healing among other positive characteristics. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a treatment in vogue that allows us to be used as adjuvants for various diseases in addition to being an inexpensive therapy that is available to patients. By means of the study of a clinical case a female patient of 75 years of age is reported. She presents fistulas in her jaw, with an evolution of more than a year, caused by multiple tooth extractions, use of bisphosphonates, signs of pain and suppuration. She signs informed consent, receives surgical intervention treatment and some sessions of hyperbaric therapy, improves her quality of life with several sessions of hyperbaric oxygenation, and maintains a stable state of health without recurrence.
