Abstract:
Chronic periodontal disease is presented as a multifactorial and infectious disease characterized by inflammation of supporting teeth tissues, as well as attachment and bone loss. Diverse pathologies as cystic lesions can also present themselves in oral cavity resulting in consequent bone loss of surrounding areas. The aim of this case report is to treat chronic periodontal disease together with a cystic lesion in order to restore, by an integral treatment, oral health, function and esthetics. In the first place, prior to any surgical procedure, patient was educated in order to understand that motivation and oral physiotherapy are important factors which contribute to obtain successful results during treatment, and depend basically on patients’ responsibility to maintain proper oral hygiene. Treatment continued with performance of surgical procedures, due to the fact that previous basic periodontal therapy did not show any significant improvements. Surgical root scaling and planing was performed to remove hard and bland biofilm of teeth, overcontoured restorations or margins which help to increase biofilm accumulation were also recountered and finally removal of the cystical lesion together with bone graft implantation in order to restore lost tissues of the region, all procedures executed in the same surgical stage. Once tissue recovery and oral health was accomplished, endodontic and rehabilitation treatments were performed achieving integral treatment development. It is important to mention that a correct diagnose facilitates accomplishment of ideal treatment plan, taking on account patients´ expectations and restoring oral health and function.
