Tratamiento preventivo con mantenedores de espacio en pacientes con pérdida prematura de piezas dentarias temporarias.

Abstract:

The main aim of this study is to establish the knowledge of preventive treatment with space maintainers in patients with premature loss of temporary dental parts by means of a comparison sheet to the students of the 10th semester of the dentistry faculty of the University of Guayaquil during the 2018-2019 cycle. The methodology corresponds to a non-experimental study since it is based on the observation of the development of the proposed topic with several response options. This study is also exploratory since it seeks the knowledge that students have on a subject already taught towards the end of their major in dentistry. Findings suggest that 60% of the students answer that the use of space maintainers are mostly fixed while adapting them in patients at the pediatric dentistry clinic of the University of Guayaquil. Regarding the gender of patients treated with space maintainers, the most prominent ones were females with 63%. The age of the patients who were placed space maintainers ranged from 7 to 8 years of age followed by 5 and 6 year-old-patients. The types of space maintainers were those of band-ansa followed by the lingual arch ones. The social stratum of the patients treated is low, followed by the middle social one. The time of use of the space maintainers ranges from 3 to 6 months. Likewise, the realization of the space maintainer by the students has been considered. In conclusion, the complexity to make the space maintainer the majority of the 48 students respond that the elaboration is easy.
