Trazando el liderazgo populista femenino en Latinoamérica: Caso Cristina Fernández

Abstract:

Despite the extensive literature on populism, its relevance in Latin America, and the growing presence of female populist political leaders, their empirical approaches have had androcentric approaches and consequently the theory has been masculinized. In response to this, the research aimed to identify characteristics of female populist leadership based on an analysis of the Instagram profile of Cristina Fernandez, current vice president of Argentina, in the period September 2019 - September 2022. For the research, 200 posts of her profile were analyzed through quantitative tools, in order to determine whether the case study is populist, and how she reflects it in her digital communication. As a result, it was possible to ensure that she is a case of feminine populism, being one of the main features the construction of antagonistic and anti-elitist discourses, however, she maintains a balance in terms of male and female gender performativity.
