Treatment of closed trauma of thorax: A case report
Abstract:
Chest trauma is defined as the presence of abnormal lesions, affecting the thoracic cavity as well as internal organs, re-sulting from an additional traumatic event. The relevance of this article is that the diagnosis is based on a combination of clinical wari-ness through an adequate physical examina-tion; a hypothesis confirmed through imaging studies, both are essential tools to diagnose pathologies of high complexity. Symptoms and complications may vary depending on the de-gree of involvement; it is important to con-sider additional problems in a thoracic trauma such as tension pneumothorax, hemothorax, cardiac contusion and unstable thorax secon-dary to costal fractures, both in penetrating and blunt trauma. Also, treatment often in-volves surgical or non-surgical approaches with the aim of relieving symptoms and pre-venting complications. Certain conditions en-danger patient’s life; however, therapeutic measures were taken quickly and efficiently. In the following case, a thoracotomy plus placement of a cellulose oxidase mesh on the pulmonary laceration proved to be useful, as a rapid treatment for patient’s management, also, subsequent complications were avoided.
