Trends and challenges in higher education in Latin America
Abstract:
This paper analyzes the phenomenon of teaching based on the difficulties identified in several levels of teacher education. The central problem is the search for theoretical and practical references to help teachers transform their teaching practice. Competence is chosen as a reference for learning and constructivist didactics as a reference for teaching, and both are expressed as a set of practical principles, to guide the work of teachers. Methodologically, two different cases are studied, in orderto understand teaching transformation experiences, using for each one the same criteria ofanalysis (the practical principles oflearning and teaching). The results show that for each case the strategies are specificto their context and they were designed from one orother principle. Likewise, the experiences move away from the traditional centered in teachers and the exposition of theories. Within the learning achieved through this text, the following are highlighted: the challenge of teacher educators to present theories through practical principles, the flexibility that practical principles offer to teachers for designing their strategies and the necessary support from educational institutions.
